Salal, commonly known as Apple Leaf or by the Latin name Gaultheria Shalon, can be recognized by its egg-shaped green leaves with serrated sides.
Salal comes from the west coast of the United States, particularly the states of Oregon, Washington and Canada. It also grows further south, towards Northern California, but due to the weather conditions the product is not winter hardy enough there. The leaves in particular are lighter in colour in some places. In other areas the leaves are glossy dark green.
This product grows wild and can be seen everywhere in the vast forest. Pickers collect leaves in the forest and bring them to the inhabited world. There it is processed and packed for shipping.
The branches of salal are also often used by florists as a basis for a bouquet. The leaf has a beautiful dark green color. Salal also has a long shelf life and is very sturdy. All these factors make this type of cut green very attractive to use in a beautiful bouquet.
